Farm-to-Cafeteria

A National Local Foods Initiative

Farm to Cafeteria is a local foods program that promotes the use of locally produced foods in cafeterias of K-12 schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, nursing homes, businesses and other institutions.

It is our goal to establish a core relationship with one local school or other institution, during the 2008 growing season. This initiative will be an opportunity to work together to accomplish the goals of many, while providing access to fresh nutritious foods where many people eat in their daily lives.

The Goals of this Farm-to-Cafeteria program are:

• Increase marketing opportunities for small farms
• Support local farmers and the local economy
• Educate eaters about local farming and food systems
• Improve the quality of foods served in the cafeteria
• Improve nutrition and prevent obesity and obesity-related diseases
• Improve institution-community relationships
