At Common Thread CSA we understand your needs and want to make buying local a convenient and affordable experience. This share option is only available for current College students.
Common Thread CSA now offers College students the opportunity to buy a "share in the harvest" We understand the demands of your busy day and will make an option available for you that coincides with when youʼll be in the area. Joining the farm is a practical step towards eating smarter and more sustainably. A small step that makes your money go farther so you can live better.
A student "share in the harvest" will consist of 11 weeks of distribution- vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs, and access to pick your own crops. The student share will begin the third week of August and will go through until the first week of November.
On average each week will consist of 6-10 items of produce ranging from 8-10 pounds. As a member of the farm you will have the option to choose a weekly box share to be picked up at the farm or you may choose to come to the farm during normal farm hours to utilize our "mix and match" system that allows you to take more of what you like and less of what you donʼt.
As a member of the farm you will also have access to all of the pick your own crops during daylight hours. These are crops you can pick yourself and are a great way to get connected to the land where your food is grown. Whether you need some ingredients for a dinner party, or want to pick some tomatoes for some killer salsa or maybe just want a change in scenery you are welcome to the farm for some relaxation.
College Student Share- Common Questions
How do I become a member and purchase a share?
The easiest way to become a member today is to print off the "2012 Colgate Student Member Agreement Form" fill it out and send it to our mailing address with your form of payment.
How many people will my share feed?
A typical student share consists of 8-10 pounds of food per week and can feed 1-2 students or 1 vegetarian.
Can I split my share with some of my other friends?
Anyone may split a share with who ever they like. A share is just a quantity of food. We ask that you select a primary shareholder and payments be made under one name. This helps us keep logistics in order. Share partners may all come to the farm.
If I split a share with friends can we take turns picking up the share?
If you do decide to split a share with other students you can arrange to pick up the share together or individually. It is fine to take half of your share and let your friends pick up the other half too.
When can I pick up my share?
You can pick up your share during normal on farm distribution hours- Tuesday 2-7, Saturday 8-1; Thursday at one of our drop off sites or Tuesday or Saturday at one of our farmers' market locations.
What if I miss my pick up?
If you miss your pick up itʼs no problem. Come on any of the shop days Tuesday or Saturday. There is never a need to feel like you have missed a pick up. If you have a box share we will hold the share for you here in our cooler until you can come pick it up during normal shop hours.
What if I want to pick up my share at the farm instead of the box share that I ordered?
If you change your mind on how you would like to pick up your share we are happy to change it for you.
How fresh is the produce in my share?
Everything in the share is harvested less than 24 hours before you receive it. All of our vegetables are picked at their peak freshness right from the fields to your kitchen.
What if I donʼt like certain types of produce?
