Throughout the season, there are a variety of ways to become a part of the Common Thread community. We welcome both members and non-members to attend events and explore the space of the farm. Here are a few ways the Common Thread community has come together so far.

Community Events on the Farm

Spring Open House - Annually in April or May

Volunteering on the Farm/ Work Parties - Check our newsletter or contact us for more information

End of Season Potluck and Pumpkin Carving - Annually in October

Increasing Food Access for All

We provide fresh local produce to families who may not otherwise be able to access it by running a sponsored share program for our CSA, by donating produce to several food pantries and soup kitchens, and by accepting food stamps and FNMP coupons for our produce.   Members who are out of town or unable to pick up their share at any point in the season have the option of donating their share to a local food pantry.  In 2015, we donated thousands of pounds of produce to Hope House in Utica and Samaritan Center in Syracuse.  We also worked with the Hamilton Food Cupboard which procured grants to work with local farms.

In 2015, because of the generosity of our members, we were also able to subsidize 11 CSA shares.  If you are interested in joining the CSA but the price is prohibitive for you, or if you would like to donate to our sponsored share program to subsidize a share for a family in need, please contact us.

Farm Visits

We at Common Thread Farm love to share the farm with others and can give tours upon request.  We have had visits from local gardening clubs, college classes, elementary age clubs, farmer groups and more.  If you are interested in bringing students of any age out to the farm to learn about and participate in local agriculture, please contact us.
