Low Cost Shares
Thanks to the generosity of our members, we have some funds for subsidized CSA shares this year. If you need financial assistance to be able to participate in the CSA, please see the information below. If you are interested in donating towards a share for low income CSA participants, we are accepting donations to make our CSA more accessible.
Information about Common Thread Farm's sponsored share program
What is Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA?
Common Thread Farm's CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program offers participants fresh, healthy vegetables in return for a financial commitment over a period of time. CSA participants receive vegetables once a week throughout the growing season. CSA promotes a responsible relationship between people and the food they eat, the land on which it is grown and the people who grow it.
What will I receive as a Common Thread Farm CSA shareholder?
You will receive an average of 4-24 pounds of produce per week, depending on the size share you select and the time of year. The variety of produce changes with the season. We grow a range of vegetables including salad greens and lettuce, beets, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes. In the spring greens are plentiful, summer is heavy with favorites like zucchini, tomatoes and peppers, and in the fall we harvest potatoes, winter squash, and carrots.
How much will I pay for my vegetables?
A standard full season share normally costs about $25 per week and a Sponsored Share costs between $2 and $14 per week, depending on what you can afford. You may pay weekly, monthly or upfront at the beginning of the season. Sponsored Shares are encouraged to volunteer and visit the farm; however, the payment for the share is not increased if one cannot do so. You may make your payment when you pick up your vegetables if you pick up at the farm or market or by mail if you have a box share at a remote site. We are can accept food stamps using vouchers - we are applying for a machine to be able to swipe SNAP cards.
Is there any other commitment to buying a share?
There is no other commitment. Volunteering for and visiting the farm are great ways to meet new people, have fun with the family, meet the farmers that grow your food and see where your food comes from, so everyone is welcome to do so but it is not a requirement.
When will I receive my vegetables?
You will receive your vegetables each week beginning June through October if you choose a full season share, or September through early November if you choose a fall share.
What size shares are available?
We have one size for our delivered box share, which is designed for a small family. On the farm, we have three sizes available, a standard share, a mini share, and a large share. A mini share is designed for an individual or a small family who doesn't eat a lot of vegetables while a large share is designed for a larger family or small family who eats a lot of vegetables.
Where can I pick up my vegetables?
You may pick up your vegetables at:
1. The farm in Madison on Tuesdays between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm or Saturdays from 8 am until 1 pm.
2. At one of our box share delivery sites on Thursdays (times vary) in Clinton, Cicero, Manlius, Fayetteville, Dewitt, Syracuse Real Food Coop, or Fairmount (Green Planet Grocery).
3. On Tuesdays in Utica, Clinton or Rome.
